Post Operative Delirium Prevention Bundle

We’re implementing a post-operative delirium prevention bundle to decrease this common complication in older patients undergoing surgery.

Our multi-pronged approach to post-operative delirium prevention includes:

Pre-operative screening and identification of high risk patients
Pre-operative patient and family/caregiver education
Intraoperative anesthetic management optimization
Post-operative delirium surveillance
Non-pharmacologic interventions to mitigate the risk of delirium post-operatively
Optimized pain control while minimizing high risk medications, and
Avoidance of certain medications during the perioperative period that can contribute to delirium.
